Small Towns – Big Data. Pomerania

Small towns are unique spaces for research, where the individual and collective experiences of their residents are reflected in the places they inhabit. They are places where social and cultural relationships, together with everyday practices, form a complex structure of local identity.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the ideas of Kazimierz Wejchert, a distinguished Polish urban planner who wrote in the 1980s:

“A small town is a self-contained structure in which all aspects of its residents’ lives are interconnected; it is a place where individual experiences become part of collective memory.”

Contemporary collective memory is not only a record of memories, but also the material traces of history preserved in architecture, urban space and local artefacts. The exhibition explores how modern technologies, including AI-based tools, can be used to analyse spatial and social data, supporting the design of more sustainable, inclusive and culturally grounded living environments.
