The aim of the competition is to promote outstanding diploma projects and encourage students to explore the subject of shared and public spaces, as well as public-use buildings, in their research and design work.

The award is presented in two categories: Design and Theory.

The Design category is open to projects in architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, spatial planning, design, graphic design, heritage conservation and related fields. Eligible works include projects concerning public spaces – such as squares, streets, green and recreational areas, and sports facilities; projects at an urban scale – such as urban plans and regeneration strategies; and public-use buildings, including schools, hospitals, public offices and cultural institutions.

The Theory category is open to theses exploring phenomena occurring in public space and issues related to public buildings, typologies, history and socio-economic change. Eligible works may cover fields such as art history, architectural history, architectural theory, demographic processes, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, economics, cultural studies, heritage protection, environmental protection, law, management and other aspects related to the development and functioning of shared spaces and buildings.
